Water...
This week has brought disruption to our road. Severn water have decided to dig our roads up (its the second time in 6 months the road has been up - why can't they co-ordinate?) to do essential repairs. The consequence is that a road already packed with cars is now a real challange to park in..its mamzing how small a space you can get your car in when necessary.
However, the real challange has been the water supply - its supposed to have been off 'intermitently' which was actually 4 hours at a time and left our washing stuck in the machine and today off 8-8. We had bought bottled water to drink and to cook with and we thought about filling a saucepan for tonight's meal. We had even organised to do the washing at other times. Our neighbours have begun Ramadan has begun so no drinking during the day for them but they do need water for washing 5 times a day so I got an urgent call from my neightbour to check whether the water was back so she could work out where to do her prayers!
BUT at lunchtime my other half said..I hope you used the toilet at church! He admitted that water for the loo had not been one of his considerations - not, I confess, mine. I told him it would be good ofr the compost but he declined that idea!
Its only a bit of distruption for a week, and no water for 12 hours, but it has sure made us realise how much we take water and its free availability for granted.

Hi Julie,
We heard a couple of days ago that the electricity board are going to cut off electricity for the area surrounding the church next Sunday morning.
No amplification (I'm not preaching that day), no keyboard/organ/ohp, no tea and coffee afterwards. Which set me wondering, which of these is the greatest loss?

Just be grateful you don't have a leaking loo and need to wait four days for plumber...!
Andy - take your flasks for tea/coffee, dig out the hymn books and ditch the sermon!
More seriously, you are right, we do take water so much for granted - as I think was shown by the effects of the recent floods and the anger that emerged as water supplies ran out.

Now I like the 'ditch the sermon' idea..can I do it every service please?
