Apologies...

Last night I led a homegroup looking at Colossians. We are trying to be more a community of faith seeking God rather than me coming with prepared stuff. Its a scary but great way to approach scripture and one we are finding rewarding as we allow the Spirit to lead us into all truth. The commentaries are at hand if we want them and I have had a brief look at them a few days before but last night we went places that were very important for those present but I had not envisgaed as I had looked at the books.

It is also, as it always with when we allow God in, challenging. One topic we talked about was how the writer had encouraged and built the people up before he came to any crtivcisms and that we need to praise, thank, pray for, and build people up first and foremost - only then can we make negative points where they are necessary. Basic stuff I know but I for one need challeninging on that from time to time.

It has also reminded me of a comment someone made at the Colin Gunon Conference earlier this week about the rightness of three scripture readings : Psalm, OT and NT because those were the only times when we knew God would speak! Now I do have two readings (OT and NT) and generally use a Psalm for a call to worship but have decided that we will hear a Psalm each service, in order, from January so that we hear the full range of Psalms.

The consequence for me today has been to give an apology to someone to whom I sent a very hurt and angry e-mail earlier this week. Enagage brain and heart, and pray, before writing e-mail is now my new mantra!
